Tolkien singing from The Hobbit

In the first chapter of The Hobbit, the dwarves are cleaning up Bilbo Baggins' kitchen and this is the song that they sing while they work.
Chip the glasses and crack the plates!
        Blunt the knives and bend the fork!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hate-
       Smash the bottles and burn the corks!
Cut the cloth and tread on the fat!
       Pour the milk on the pantry floor!
Leave the bones on the bedroom mat!
      Splash the wine on every door!
Dump the crocks in a boiling bowl;
      Pound them up with a thumping pole;
And when you've finished, if any are whole,
     Send them down the hall to roll!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!
So carefully! carefully with the plates!

You can listen to a truly delightful recording of J.R.R. Tolkien singing the dwarves' song himself. It's quite catchy, so you might find yourself singing it for the rest of the day! We are!

    my kids have been stomping round the house singing this little ditty. Cole changes it to "that's what mommy really hates."

    True... Touche.
