'Bronze Arrowhead' lettuce is my all time favorite, I have planted it every year for the last five or more years.
I'm also trying out a radish this year. They don't take up much space, so I thought I would see how they do. I always plant yellow beans and climbing peas, this year's are marked for 6ft and edible pods which I should have always used. I also let my cucumbers climb the fence to save on space, also it helps to attract pollinators which I gladly roll out the red-carpet for.
I also plan to try the rainbow carrots again this year. They taste the same, but add an element of surprise when you are harvesting. It's a good kind of gardening surprise, not the kind that makes you want to howl with frustration.
Love this! I am SO excited to get seeds and plant! :) I have visions of juicy, flavorful tomatoes for our garden :) And beans and carrots and lettuces and spinach and cucumbers....
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear your excitement too! Although your garden operation is way bigger than my tiny one!
DeleteOh how exciting!
ReplyDeletexoxo to you, dear Lia
DeleteI recently planted some lettuce but we have to plant edibles in pots on our large verandah or the native animals eat them. My dh remarked that we might get about $3 worth out of them, which will just cover the cost of the seedlings...I think I'll try some kale or silver beet as well. As much as I'd love to grow my own, I haven't had much success at all.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I try not to spend a lot of money either on my plants/sees, so I can understand your husband's reasoning. Being able to pick something that you've grown and use it to feed your family is rewarding, but losing food to blight or animals is hard and sometimes spendy.
